Mackerel Fillets in Spiced Olive Oil with Pickles La Gondola
Mackerel or Scomber Colias is a blue fish that belongs to the Scombridae family. It is characteristic for having big eyes and, mainly, by the shiny green spots that presents in the upper and lateral parts. This fish is abundant in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea at depths up to 170 meters during the Winter, to rise to the surface when the time gets better and to feed.
During its catching, there’s the use of traditional Portuguese fishing methods, always respecting marine biodiversity.
The La Gondola canned mackerel is made from the selection of the best specimen in order to preserve the fish quality and texture as much as possible. The fillets are prepared and canned by hand, adding only olive oil, fresh piri-piri, carrot and cucumber.
The can is submitted to a sterilization process at 118ºC, guaranteeing the elimination of any organism that may decompose the product.
Conservation and harmonization
The canned mackerel in spiced olive oil does not require cold for its preservation, being possible to keep it in a dry place. It must be consumed directly from the can, without need for any preparation. If not totally consumed after opening, it is recommended to take the content out of the can and place it in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
It is recommended to consume at room temperature as an appetizer, enjoying the olive oil and all its ingredients.
