Sardine in Tomato La Gondola
The sardine is one of the most popular fish in Portugal. They generally have around 14 cm of length and are characterized mainly by the silver scales in the belly, that they use to reflect the light and blind the predators. They’re found in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea in large migrating banks.
Sardines are caught with by the purse seine method, which is in total respect for the environment.
La Góndola canned sardine is fished in the best time of campaign, between september and november, period where the sardine reaches its maximum exponent of size and fat. At the factory, they’re selected and manually canned, simply adding a delicious tomato sauce to give it more taste and texture. MINERVA sardines are faithful to the Portuguese traditional production. According to this method, the fish is pre-cooked, before canning and, to finalize the process, is sterilized at a temperature of 118ºC, guaranteeing the conservation of the product.

Conservation, use and harmonization
These canned sardines can be stored in a cool, dry place, with no need to be placed in the fridge. They can be consumed directly from the can, with or without accompaniement, without need for cooking or preparation. Once open, if the can is not completely consumed, it is recommended to take the sardines out and store them in the fridge for a maximum of 48 hours.
It is recommended to consume at room temperature as appetizer, accompanied by red wine or simply in a sandwich as an easy, nutritive snack.
